Muscle Building Activities: How to Find Time for Fitness Activities?

Posted in Fit At Home by admin on the December 31st, 2008

Still giving the same old excuse for not hitting the gym? We all find exercising an enjoyable activity, but we all complain about shortage of time. Here are certain tips that may help you get over this excuse for good. But catch here is, ONLY if you want to get over it.

. Make an appointment to exercise- and write it in your diary. You could also record what you did in your workout, so you can keep track of your achievements.

. Keep some exercise kit handy in the places you spend most of your time. This might mean leaving clothes at college, work, with friends or relatives, or in the boot of your car.

. Practice saying no to people who as you to do things that aren’t your responsibility, or don’t even need doing, yet take up valuable time.

. Finds ways of working, caring for others or studying smarter rather than harder. For example, use your computer skills to save time on a range of mundane activities, then use the free time you have created to be physically active.

. If you are in employment, make sure you take all you holiday entitlement. Consider taking active holidays such as a cycle tour or trekking trip.

Random Fact: Build your forearms - Forearms are the most neglected body part when it comes to training. And it’s not just about having “bowling pin” forearms. Grip strength is the foundation of many other important exercises. Sports, such as martial arts, rock climbing and water-skiing, all benefit from having more power in your grip and forearms.

. If you own a car, leave it at home as much as possible and walk or cycle to shops for those small things such as milk or a newspaper.

. As an experiment, don’t wear a watch for a weekend to see if being released from this ‘jailer’ liberates you to do more physical activity.

Random Tip: High Protein Diet- A high-protein diet can make regular exercise more effective for women trying to lose weight- helping to build muscle while trimming body fat, a study suggests.

For the study, two groups of women were put on high protein diet and high carbohydrates diets. All the women who exercised at least 200 minutes per week lost about the same amount of weight, irrespective of whether they ate a high-protein or a high carb diet. But almost all the weight lost by those who ate the protein diet was fat, while almost one-third of the weight lost by those on the high-carb diet was muscle.

Many high-protein diets, such as Atkins plan, have fallen from the favor because they are not nutritionally balanced. The high protein diet in this study was lower in fat and had more fruits and vegetables than the Atkins diet.

Power Supplies

Posted in Hardware Infos by admin on the December 29th, 2008

All of the high-tech peripherals and latest editions of computer software products that you’ve installed are useless if your computer’s power supply is not sufficiently providing electricity.

Before your computer can operate properly, it needs an adequate amount of electricity. Through the power supply system’s switcher technology, power deliveries the electricity once the alternating current (AC) input from an electrical outlet is converted into direct current (DC) input for your computer. The power supply is typically known as the “switching power supply.” This is a metal box found in a corner of the computer case. In most cases, power supplies are visible at the back of the computer that contains a power-cord receptacle, cooling fan and off/on switch.

As various components of the computer have different requirements, there are three voltages typically provided by a power supply: 3.3 volts, 5 volts, and 12 volts. The digital circuits of most computers use the first two voltage rails while the 12-volt rail is used in disk drives and fans. The main specification of power supplies is using wattage to rate the current they use up. In the early 90’s, the typical power supply used around 150 watts. But as the advancement of computer technologies grew, the need for higher wattage arose. Thus, you are now able to purchase 450 watts or greater.

The emergence of higher-wattage power supplies led to many believing that these systems are better for their computers. Apparently, they misinterpreted that installing a large-containing-wattage power supply would safeguard their computers against under-powering the system, and at the same time, draw only the amount of current required. However, this notion is not advantageous at all, as large power supplies can produce more heat. As power supplies are rated through wattage, generating more heat would mean more wattage used. Thus, more wattage used would also mean higher cost for the power.

Mont-Blanc Doubles in Height since 2003 as Reported by Glaciologists

Posted in World Of Travel by admin on the December 28th, 2008

Recent careful GPS readings carried out on the 17-18th August have proven that Mount Blanc amounts to 4810.2 meters. Mount Blanc is covered by a dense icecap which has grown bigger by 2.3 meters in just 2 yrs however more surprising the volume of the ice and snow has virtually doubled up . Least ways that’s as reported by the professionals.

The mass of ice was computed for the maiden time in 2000. It was calculated at 14400 cubic metres higher up than 4800 meters. It equaled merely 13800 cubic meters in 2001 potentially ascribable to the heat with plus temp as high as 4850 meters altitude. Notwithstanding the ice-cap has all but increased twofold since then and nowadays numbers 25000 cubic metres.

Chamonix village’s valued local weather man Denise Newell explained the development in the size of the ice cap is one of the perverse results of climate change: Snow hasn’t multiplied generally in the Alps only with global warming we are having additional hot westerly air currents which bring in rain lower down but in summer this translates to dense snowfall that rests at higher altitude than 3800 meters height therefore the mass bulk of the ice cap is rising. Counterpoint that to the state of affairs during wintertime when snow crystals are very cold and are transferred by wind and so do not rest on the summit.

Chamonix ski resort is not just famous for Mount Blanc it is also a world renowned snowboarding area and climbing center with many ski deals and self catering chalets to be had. Moreover at only 1 hr from Geneva Switzerland it is ideal for a short break.

Capture Video Into Your Computer

Posted in Hardware Infos by admin on the December 28th, 2008

You’ve shot that wonderful video of your daughter’s birthday. Now, how can you get it into the computer to do some snazzy editing and perhaps produce a VCD or two? If the video is on that MiniDV or Hi8 tape, how can you possibly move it out of there into the computer? Seems tough. Well, let this article help you.

Analog or Digital?

The first thing you want to do is to determine if your video is in digital format (MiniDV, Digital8, MicroMV, Digital Tapeless, DVD) or analog format (8mm, Hi8, VHS-C). If it is in digital format, which is increasingly popular these days, you will need to transfer the video to the computer using a Firewire card. If it is in analog format, you will need an analog-to-digital conversion device to do the transfer.

Firewire Cards

A Firewire card is the channel through which video from your digital camcorder can enter your computer. A Firewire cable runs from your camcorder DV output port to your computer’s DV input port. Due to the extremely fast transfer speeds that Firewire achieves, the digital video will be transferred with almost zero loss in quality. Most computers do not come with Firewire cards - if you are lo
ing for one, I’d highly recommend the Belkin FireWire card which retails for less than $35 online.

If you want to find out what factors to consider when purchasing a quality Firewire card, you can check out my article on choosing the best Firewire card.

Analog-to-Digital Conversion Devices

An analog-to-digital conversion device converts video from analog format to digital format. These type of device is well suited for the following video editing scenarios:

  • You have video shot by an analog camcorder and wish to convert it into a digital format.

  • You have some old VHS tapes which are growing dusty and you wish to convert them into a digital format.

If you are in either of the above scenarios, I highly recommend you get an analog-to-digital conversion device to help with the time consuming work. One product that I’ve had excellent experience with is the USB Instant DVD from ADS Technologies.

This is is a neat little device that has ports to allow analog video input from your analog camcorder or VCR. It outputs the converted digital video via a USB cable into your computer’s USB port. You will definitely want to check out my full review of USB Instant DVD.

Conclusion

Well, I hope this article has given you some insight into the process of capturing video into your computer. The main point is to always remember what video format you’re dealing with. If it’s digital, go with Firewire and if it’s analog, use an analog-to-digital video conversion device.

The Importance Of Sets In Your Muscle Building Program

Posted in Fit At Home by admin on the December 27th, 2008

In an earlier article we looked at how repetitions contribute to the muscle building process, but is the position regarding sets just as clear cut? Unfortunately, the answer to this is no as some experts feel one set to failure is sufficient, whereas others argue that multiple sets are needed to ensure maximum muscle gains.

Research to date suggests that, when using six to eight repetitions to failure at 75-80% 1RM, there is little significant difference between training with single and multiple sets in terms of increasing either strength or muscle size. Any small differences that have been recorded indicate that a single set completed to failure encourages strength gains but subsequent sets have a slightly greater impact on muscle size. What is clear is that the law of diminishing returns applies, so you have to question if the marginal improvements in size justify the extra time and effort expended.

Like everything else in life, bodybuilding does not remain static and several cutting edge experts have redefined the boundaries of achievement. Increasingly, serious athletes are using methods that extend the set beyond the point of failure. This involves forcing the muscle to perform more work despite having experienced failure in the previous rep. In practice, you perform one last forced repetition with the help of a training partner.

This obviously calls for great commitment and high motivation but the rewards include better mass gains thanks to the greater muscular overload. Such intensive training places additional importance on the need to lift with sound technique and to incorporate sufficient recovery time into your muscle building program.

Rick Mitchell has written numerous articles aimed at helping athletes, from beginners to advanced, understand how to build muscle and increase strength. He has also developed several supporting web resources including Muscle Building Tips

Monitoring Search Engine Positions

Posted in Living With Search Engine Optimization by admin on the December 27th, 2008

Copyright © Herman Dias http://www.Money-Earner.com

Since search engines are the first stop for people on the Internet looking for goods or services, the position your website appears in search results is an important factor. If your URL shows up far down the results list, the chances of the consumer never finding you increase incrementally. Once you achieve a high search engine position, it is essential that you make sure you maintain the high ranking you have worked so hard to achieve.

This means you must come up with a strategy to monitor your search engines positions. This strategy is crucial to the success of any marketing campaign. Think of your search engine positions as your online portfolio. Would you let your stock portfolio be ruled by chance and market fluctuations, or would you keep close tabs on your stocks so you could buy and sell when the time is right? This is the way you must consider your search engines positions.

Be aware that at first, after you have launched your search engine campaign and done all the right things to increase your rankings, you will most likely see a continual upward climb. What you need to be on the lookout for is the moment that upward climb reaches a plateau. When this happens, your search engine position campaign moves into stage two, the monitoring and protecting stage.

In stage two, do not be concerned about the short-term fluctuations in your positions. These are similar to the subtle rising and falling of stocks in a portfolio. Short-term movement is an integral part of the whole process. It’s the long-term changes that you must watch for and prepare to act on immediately.

Analyzing the long-term trends of search engines positions is imperative. The way in which search engines rank websites may change at the drop of hat. If you are unaware of these changes - many of which are subtle yet can be deadly to your ranking - your position may drop to the bottom of the list before you can get your bearings. To prevent this kind of precipitous drop, you must create a system to monitor your positions on a monthly basis. Devise a chart to keep tabs on your top ranking positions or your top pages, and make sure to watch “the market” closely.

Each search engine uses a formula to compute website rankings. When a search engine changes this formula in any way, it may raise or lower your ranking. Some search engines use a number of different formulas, rotating them so that a formula doesn’t become overused or outdated. Depending on which formula is being applied, your search engine position may suddenly drop or rise in rank significantly. Therefore, you must check your positions frequently in order to catch when a search engine changes formulas and what effect it has on your positions.

You must also deal with your competition - a crucial factor you must always be vigilant about. Your competitor’s position may suddenly rise, automatically lowering your position. Or their position may drop, pushing your position higher. Each month, expect position changes due to the continual changes that are occurring in your competitor’s position, and be prepared to adjust your marketing strategy to compensate for decreased rankings. Monitoring these fluctuations will also give you vital information about how to improve your website to increase your position in search results.

Of course, you must discern what the most popular search engines are in order for your monitoring efforts to be effective. Right now, there are ten popular search engines that direct most of Internet traffic to your sites. The challenge you face is that these top ten may change from month to month.

This means that your must not only monitor your search engine positions, but you must also keep track of the ranking popularity of the search engines you are monitoring. Find out which search engines people use most frequently every month and be sure to live in the present! People are fickle about their favorite search engines, and it takes constant vigilance to follow their dalliances. The search engines they loved when you first launched your campaign may be old news in the next few months. You must adjust your list of engines according to the whims of the Internet users. Check out http://www.searchenginewatch.com/reports/netratings.html for a current list of website favorites.

Another factor to monitor carefully is a sudden drop of your positions in all search engines. This is not the same as monthly fluctuations - this is a neon red warning sign! It could mean a number of different things.

It all your search engine positions have plummeted, it may indicate that search engines spiders - those sneaky programs that seek out your site and rank their positions - have found some type of problem with your website. If you have recently changed the code, for instance, the spider may become utterly confused and consequently drop your positions disastrously. If a spider creeps up on your website when it is down for adjustments or changes, you may actually disappear from a search engine index entirely. Or a search engine may drastically change its formula, and suddenly all of your website come up as irrelevant. If that search engine is a current favorite, it may create a domino effect, causing all of your position to drop in all search engines.

Some search engines rely on the results from other search engines, and it is vital that you know which engines these are and keep track of all the engines they influence. The biggest problem here is that search engines will sometimes change affiliations, and this can create a major shift in the geography of the Internet. For example, recently Yahoo decided to display only results gleaned from Google. So you must not only monitor your own positions, but you must keep abreast of seismic shifts in the landscape of the Internet as a whole.

Finally, pay attention to your keywords. Keywords are the foundation bricks of the entire search engine system, and they demand individual scrutiny in your monitoring efforts. If you have found that a number of your positions have plummeted, it may mean that a page of your website has become invisible or inaccessible to search engine spiders. Or the competition for that particular keyword or phrase has recently rocketed into outer space. In either case, you must act quickly and efficiently to regain lost ground.

Your search engine marketing campaign is an investment. If costs you time and money on a continual basis. Protect this investment as diligently as you would your financial portfolio. In the same way, track your positions from an objective perspective, and monitor your positions on a regular basis. Make sure your time and effort reap rewards by keeping your eye on the big picture - your long-term marketing campaign.

TiVo: An Introduction for the Few Who Don’t Know Yet

Posted in Hardware Infos by admin on the December 27th, 2008

TiVo will change your life… for the better. Plain and simple: record shows by telling TiVo to record them (not when, what channel, how long, etc.), record all new episodes of X, record all movies w/ so-and-so in them, etc.

High Points:

Most people know the basics of the concept. Here’s the low-down on the things I’m asked most…

1. You can record one thing and watch something else already recorded.

2. You can get a dual tuner TiVo, but you’ll need two SEPARATE feeds to the TiVo (i.e., two lines from your satellite dish). Then you can record 2 things at once or watch one/record another. These are more expensive, but you can get a DirecTiVo w/ dual tuner cheaper and then the monthly TiVo fee is about half normal.

3. Pause live TV - if you don’t realize the value of this, I can’t explain it. :)

TiVo has many different versions which all some slight variations. If you want to go beyond ‘average guy’ level, check out this forum.

Comparison to ReplayTV:

TiVo seems to have a better interface from what I’ve seen and what others have said. It’s easier to use. However, ReplayTV is more easily hackable - you can access it from the web and the PC easier to convert/archive shows, etc. I have a DVD recorder for this which is another post for another time.

Both can be made to do mostly the same things, but you get the idea.

My Suggestion

I recommend the DirecTiVo Hughes HDVR2 (dual tuner) w/ the Triple LNB dish (this is the oval dish w/ 4 lines from it and it’s HDTV ready). It’s got the satellite converter box built in so it’s only one box to deal w/, the TiVo monthly fee is less and it’s dual tuner.

This model isn’t as hackable as some TiVo’s, but it can do some and if you want to go beyond the basics than you probably haven’t read this far.

What Is Anavar - (Generic Name Oxandrolone)?

Posted in Fit At Home by admin on the December 25th, 2008

Anavar was first introduced to the world in 1964, when the Searle Company released the first version of the drug called Oxandrolone. Although not as potent as Dianabol, the other popular steroid at the time, Oxandrolone quickly became very popular with bodybuilders and powerlifters, because of its low risk of side effects. Oxandrolone remained at the top of the best-seller lists until the late 1980’s when Searle discontinued producing the drug. As expected prices began to skyrocket as the remaining stocks of the drug dried up. Then in the mid 1990’s researchers began to experiment with the drug as a way to combat the wasting effects of AIDS. The results were so promising that BTG, a US-based company started manufacturing the drug under the name Oxandrin. Despite the new name Oxandrin, most bodybuilders still use the name Anavar.

Anavar in sports

Men find that it doesn’t carry the same risk of developing gynecomastia (the swelling of the breast tissue) and women like that it doesn’t produce such side effects as a deepening of the voice, hair growth, and sex organ masculinizing. For these reasons Oxandrolone is probably the most requested drug by female athletes.

As a drug that doesn’t cause water retention or produce excess estrogen, Oxandrolone is very popular as a precontest cutting drug and very useful for bringing out definition and vascularity at contest time. In fact more bodybuilders use Anavar for reducing body fat than building muscle mass. Another benefit of the steroid is that it seems to have appetite suppressant properties. This makes it easier for users to control calorie-cravings and stay strict while on a precontest diet.

While bodybuilders primarily use Oxandrolone for its great effects on fat loss and moderate effects on muscle building, powerlifters use the drug for strength. Soon after its introduction in the mid sixties, athletes noticed that the drug produced tremendous strength gains without a noticeable increase in bodyweight. These are two characteristics that make the drug so popular with competitive powerlifters and weightlifters as both sports have weight classes. The exact mechanism of action for this is unknown but it is believed that Oxandrolone stimulates the body to synthesize more phosphocreatine. Phosphocreatine is used in the production of ATP - the body’s primary short-term energy molecule. Increased ATP levels increase an individual’s short-term anaerobic performance, the type needed for such explosive actions as bench pressing and clean and jerking.

Are there risks?

Despite the continued popularity of oxandrolone, you shouldn’t be in a rush to go out and buy the drug. As with any steroid there will be side effects; maybe not as pronounced as say Dianabol or Anadrol-50, but they’ll be there nevertheless. As a 17-alkylated steroid (modified to survive passage through the liver and digestive system), prolonged use of Anavar may cause liver abnormalities.

Anavar may also be addictive. Let’s face it the fat-burning properties alone will making it difficult for users to stop taking the drug.

Finally even if the drug was side effect free, steroids are illegal substances. You don’t want to spend your days sharing a cell with some 300-pound guy named bubba.

Legal Alternatives!

If you want to experience the same results as oxandrolone without the risk of side effects or jail time, there is an alternative. They are called legal steroid analogs and they are fast gaining a reputation as the best way to increase muscle mass and lose bodyfat.

The previous information has been created by experts to help you increase your knowledge base about anabolic steroids and bodybuilding supplements. Be knowledgeable. Be informed. Make the right choice!

Local Elected Officials - The end of an Era

Posted in Pressure Groups by admin on the December 24th, 2008

Copyright 2006 Al Arnold

We all know of at least one local elected official, who seems to have been around forever. At some point in time that person finally decides to retire. Their name will not be on the ballot.

One of those local icons was retiring this year from my County Board.

This particular gentleman gave me one of my all time favorite “keepsake” remarks. A “keepsake” remark is one of those statements that you never forget. It is forever burned in your memory.

This particular “keepsake” remark came during County Board budget deliberations five years ago. I was attempting to remove from the budget, all funds earmarked for the D.A.R.E. program. I stated I was not opposed to drug education programs, I was just opposed to this particular drug education program. I had read the D.A.R.E. material when my son had gone through the program. I stated I was opposed to D.A.R.E. because I believed that it lied to the kids, about the effects of some drugs.

This local elected icon, the Chairman of the Law Enforcement Committee, a long time Public Safety employee as a police officer then Sheriff, stood to the floor, shook his finger at me and loudly proclaimed, “Of course we lie to the kids, how else are we going to get through to them?”

Five years, and I am still speechless. I was never able to come up with a rebuttal. I still can’t. How can you rebut that remark?

While my political career took a twist and I had to resign from the County Board, this political icon became the new Chairman of the County Board. This public servant held various elected offices for 35 years.

I wonder how many other people he served with over those 35 years? How many “keepsake” remarks did he give to those people? How many “keepsake” remarks has he heard?

How many other public servants across the country, have spent the past 30 plus years, putting their name on the ballot every two years, sometimes serving on multiple local boards simultaneously? How many of those “races” were un-opposed? But, most of all, what drives someone to serve for 35 years of low pay, phone calls at home at all times of the day, interruptions at a restaurant dinner with your spouse and harassment in bars?

The next time I saw him, I was going to ask him some of these questions. But, shortly after announcing he would no longer run for office, he died of a sudden heart attack.

When you see your local political icon, ask them these questions before it is too late. I bet you will enjoy their answers. They might even give you a “keepsake” remark. They are all very, very interesting characters.

Ole! Thanks for the memories.
